Great to meet Nobby Unwin, Founder %26 Webmaster of 'Friends of 138 Valiant Sqdn' who is setting up the Valiant Museum Group building at Thorpe Camp, along with 'Valianite' historian Pete Sharp, Geoff Dann and Vic Savage - last crew chief of Valiant XD857, the cockpit section of which survives at N%26SAM, Flixton.
I also met V person George Grimshaw at Flixton on the Tuesday after the V Reunion – so I got him to sign my reunion Victor nosedoor too! His wife also remembered Valiant ‘857 being built at Brooklands as a little girl, as her uncle was a foreman there. She recalled the many complex pristine wiring looms that were being fitted on the day of her visit over half a century ago - a small world indeed!
George later e-mailed me to say: "looking at the photographs brought back many memories. I only flew in the Victor with 232 OCU at Gaydon from 1958 to 1961 and with 10 squadron from 1961 until the squadron was disbanded in 1964. The Victor was a great aircraft to fly in".
Following a request via Geoff Dann I was also pleased to e-mail a V course photo to Phillip Goodall, who mailed: "On the Victor Display there was a photo of the Valiant Course at Gaydon in September 1956 just prior to the Suez War, with many people that I knew and who would like a copy of the photo". Great to talk to so many people and Gary Weightman, who did an excellent line in Victor cartoons - chocks away for the next event. | | | | | |

Wih great regret I have to inform all my friends that Iwill be unable to attend the reunion. I missed the last one as I was in Hong Kong and this one because I am quite ill at the moment. I am absolutely 'gutted' and have been trying to see if it would be sensible to come, but alas I have had to come to the conclusion that it would not be. Roger Smith and Neil McCrimmion know the full reason and they could let you know.
Of course any of you are very welcome to pay me a visit at home and an e mail will get the address and directions and I would love to see you.
Have a good time at the reunion and remember all the good times - and there were lots of those.
